We’re On the Road: The SA Hay Run Begins

After eight weeks of planning, hundreds of phone calls, countless emails, spreadsheets, forms, permits, and more late nights than we can count – the time has finally arrived.

We’re hitting the road.

This week marks the start of the 2025 SA Hay Run, a joint effort between Farmers Across Borders and Need for Feed Australia. It’s the biggest convoy we’ve ever coordinated, with up to 84 trucks loaded with hay and straw making their way from all over Western Australia to farming families in drought-affected regions across South Australia.

🚛 Quick Facts:

• 4 WA Locations
  Feed has been loaded from across the state, from Bindi Bindi in the north, York in the east, Kulin, Woodanilling, and Wagin in the Wheatbelt, and Grass Patch in the south.
• 6,000+ Bales
  Purchased thanks to generous donations to Need for Feed Australia, this much-needed feed will be donated directly to farmers to help feed their livestock.
• $2 Million
  This hay run is made possible through practical support from the South Australian Government, which is covering the cost of transporting feed across the Nullarbor.
• 84 Trucks
  Once the funding and feed were confirmed, we put the call out – and the trucking industry answered in force. This convoy is proof of what’s possible when our industry comes together.
• 26 Volunteers
  The entire coordination effort has been done by volunteers – everyday Australians from all over the country, united by one goal: to support our farmers and help them stay on the land.

Behind every truck, behind every bale, is a team of volunteers.
And behind all of us is a community that believes in backing the backbone of Australia – our farmers.
